My name is Debbie and I have been teaching for 10 years and counting in the greater Boston area. After graduating from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in moderate special needs, I embarked on my journey of impacting the lives of all children who walk into my classroom. I currently hold a teaching license in Elementary Education, Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities and English as a Second Language (ESL). After experiencing various classroom settings, I settled into my career as an ESL teacher in a public school in Massachusetts. In addition to teaching ESL, I have 10 years experience teaching an ISEE and SSAT test prep class as well as conducting private tutoring for ISEE, SSAT, ESL, and various academic subjects for grades K-8.
Teaching is my main passion in life. However, I feel that it is important to have a life outside of the classroom as well. When I am not lesson planning and creating engaging activities for my students, I enjoy baking and decorating cakes. I have made cakes for bridal showers and baby showers, as well as children and adult birthday parties. For me, just like yoga, baking is a form of meditation.
Looking back on my life as a student, I remember my parents trying their best to prepare me for the ISEE test to gain admission into one of Boston Public School’s top exam schools: Boston Latin School. At the time, my parents didn’t know how to support me or where to find information that could help me as a student. During the exam, I sat nervously trying the best I could with minimal preparation. 4 months after taking the ISEE, I found out that I was admitted to Boston Latin School. I still remember that feeling of accomplishment today.
My goal for this blog is to create a one-stop shop for parents and students to gather all the information they will need about the ISEE and SSAT: including strategies, testing information, registration tools, prep book reviews, and much more. I have been in the shoes of our students who are about to take the ISEE and I understand what they need most to prepare for the exam as well as the role parents can play in helping their child.
Throughout my 10 years of ISEE and SSAT prep experience, I have developed effective ISEE and SSAT curriculums and taught lower, middle and upper level ISEE and SSAT. I have worked with hundreds of students in the greater Boston area. Many of these students have gotten into their top choice of schools including Boston Latin School, Buckingham Browne & Nichols, Winsor, Noble and Greenough, and BC high.
